The BEST Mexican food on the Oregon coast!! Family owned and operated. Very friendly. Beautiful view of the rugged ocean. We eat here as often as possible. Price are good, quantity is generous.

Tasty, made-from-scratch Mexican food at good prices. Beautiful view of the waves crashing on the rocky shoreline of Depoe Bay. We moved to the Oregon coast after living in Las Vegas for almost 20 years, so we've had our share of Mexican food, both good and bad. Mazatlan was a very pleasant surprise. The refried beans are made from scratch daily, and have incredible flavor. Purists might freak out a little over the chile relleno, which is more of a fluffy omelet or frittata 9stuffed full of chopped green chilies, but it really tastes great. The service was fantastic; their young servers were much better that most of the lackluster slackers here on the coast. There are two other Mazatlan restaurants on the Central Oregon Coast - here, one south in Newport, and one north of here in Lincoln City. The one in Newport is pretty bad, so we were a little nervous trying this one. Apparently the one in Newport isn't closely associated with this one. Some people don't realize that "traditional" Mexican food can vary widely, with Tex-mex being different from Arizona-mex, which is different from Vegas-mex and Mexi-Cali, and even different regions of Mexico. Keep that in mind when you're trying Mexican in different parts of the country.

I went back for a second try and again got the chicken taco's (2) ala carte, and this time the taco's were stuffed more generously with chicken, lettuce and cheese. The difference between the same food choices on two different visits must lay with the Chef in the kitchen on that particular day. I love it that they give you the little basket of warm chips with a dollop of refried beans/cheese, and nearly perfect salsa to quiet a growling stomach: but the service is very good. Again, a very small, cozy place just South/West of the bridge in Depoe Bay.

The ocean view is great. The food however was OK. Certainly not up to par with most other Mexican restaurants I've eaten at. The chicken taco and shredded beef enchilada were both dry. The black beans not seasoned at all. However the service was very friendly and the food was served fast and hot.

If you're tired of seafood and have a hankering for Mexican food, this is your best bet in town. A quaint little place on the side of 101, this family-run restaurant is a pretty good value for your money. I love that the meat is actually seasoned, unlike many restaurants of the same ilk. One thing that im sure of is that you'll leave happier (and fuller) than you were when you arrived. Ocean view near the back of the restaurant isn't too shabby.

I've been to this Mazatlan a number of times as I live in the area, but tonight was a disappointment. We were given a salsa and chips after seated and the salsa was so hot that my husband about choked on it. They brought some other mild salsa, but it was almost just liquid with nothing in it. We don't care for spicy foods, and were not offered an alternative and weren't given the refried bean dip until I asked for it. I ordered two tacos with black beans and the ground beef was pretty greasy and runny. The black beans seemed right out of a can with no spice and barely warmed. My husband ordered a taco and tamale both with ground beef, but it turned out that the tamale was chicken. We will probably return as we live nearby and normally the restaurant is much better than this. The waitress was nice, but the others on the staff seemed disinterested. It was my birthday today, so needless to say I was greatly disappointed.

Food was great. Service was great and very friendly. Margaritas were impressive. Felt the need to tip extra. Very happy with our Delux chicken burrito. (MORE than enough for two to share). Extremely affordable. We were very happy. And full. And tipsy. Great place. ;)

Our meal was pretty good, the beans, chips, and salsa were great. The spinach enchiladas were great too. My only complaint is that the shrimp in one dish were cooked beyond recognition--they were hard to chew and really ruined that dish.

The food here is so much more delicious than your average Mexican. Located on the South end of town on the water side, the view here is AMAZING. Booths with huge picture windows look out onto the bay. The staff was sweet and friendly, the restaurant clean with fresh, quaint paintings and newish booths and decor in the Mexican style. We ordered two lunches and iced tea, all for $15. The servings were large. Besides the regular meat choices of ground beef, chicken, steak and pork they offered a Colorado beef: chunks of beef in a red sauce and pork chunks in a mild green verde sauce. The food was fresh and delicious, not heavy or greasy. We were served refried beans with cheese along with hot chips and salsa as soon as we arrived. Thumbs up!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
